Moron Club Accepting New Members Anyone care to guess what all of these sites have in common? Link Link Link Link Link The worst dimwit is this guy, who stole my writing and doesn't even credit me: Link UPDATE: This post has generated a lot of interest. I've received numerous emails in addition to the comments that visitors have posted. This post used to have a picture of a little girl sticking her tounge out, with a caption that read "you're a LOSER". I found the picture via Google Images and thought it the most appropriate image for this post. You can imagine my shock when I was contacted by the little girl's father! He has asked me to remove the image, and of course, I have done so. The irony and hipocracy here is obvious-- the fact is that I used a stolen image to decorate a post about people stealing my site template and personal writing. I would like to publicly appologize to the gentleman and acknowledge my own membership into the Moron Club. I think what this experience has shown me is just how readily the internet encourages moronic behaviour. It is like a giant free-for-all, with everyone grabbing whatever they want and using it to thier own ends. I have also received numerous emails from the guy that used my writing on his site. He removed the writing immediatley, and in addition to offering several appologies, has offered to let me publicly humiliate him. I don't think that is necessary. It only highlights that even nice people will behave in ways online that they wouldn't consider in their daily lives. I was shocked to see my writing on another guys site. I can only imagine what it was like for the dad who has now seen his daughter's photo on several sites in addition to this one. If anyone is interested, here are the instructions about how to remove all of a site's images, or just a few specific images, from Google's image cache. When I get a chance I will answer some of the questions that this post has generated. It seems that a large percentage of internet users have stolen material that they have found online, whether it be MP3's, movies, writing, images, etc. etc. Perhaps you might like to consider joining the Moron Club, possibly one of the fastest growing groups on the 'net today! |
