Live From Toronto

Well I'm in Toroto now to see the family, and I've finally gotten online but I have to say that this Sympatico DSL kind of sucks. I guess I've just never seen high speed internet that you have to sign into to use.

Before I left I picked up my new (to me) laptop. I bought it off of eBay, and man what a score it is! It is a Toshiba Satellite 5005 series, last year's model. I got it for $900 USD, or $1230 CDN. I worked on this same machine for a client a while ago, and it was the nicest laptop I've ever used. It has an amazing sound, and big, bright display and a really nice feel to it. Unfortunatley, this BlueTooth stuff is useless, so I have to look into a wireless PCMCIA card and an wireless interent gateway. I'm new to all this wireless stuff, but I'm sure there are a lot of people out there with great advice about what to look for. Ideally, I'd like to have something I can use easily in a variety of situations, whether cable internet, DSL, or for when I hack into thost T1 lines.

Oh and before you all start bugging me with SARS jokes because I'm in Toronto, let me assure you that there are far worse things here than SARS. There's the 401, Lake Ontario, and the memory of former-Premier Mike Harris. Also, there is a heat wave, smog, West Nile Virus and crack cocaine. What can I say, I'm a snob that is really glad to live in British Columbia.
