Using ActiveSync with Bluetooth

Here is an easy guide for using Bluetooth to connect a PPC or Smartphone to a PC and get ActiveSync to operate.

1. Add an incoming COM port in your Bluetooth software.
2. Under CONNECTIONS in ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Center, select “Allow connection to one of the following” and check the list, use the COM port created with your Bluetooth software.
3. Refresh your paired devices services on your PPC or Smartphone and you'll see ActiveSync pop up

Yes, it's THAT easy. Good Luck and I hope this helps the majority of those suffering from their lack of BT ActiveSync connections.

Guide for Canadians Wanting to Access Demonoid

From www.zeropaid.com: "Demonoid ... has apparently been forced to block Canadian visitors after having been threatened with legal action by the CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association).

For those Canadian users who aren't quite sure how to visit the site without being blocked I've reposted a helpful guide from the Demonoid forums here for you to check out and use."

Circumventing the recent decision to block Canadians from visiting the popular BitTorrent tracker site

From businessweek.com: "I've written elsewhere about how I don't much care for Radiohead's music. But what they're doing with the selling of their just-announced new album is nothing short of brilliant.

For starters: Radiohead--probably the biggest unsigned band in the world--is putting out said album, In Rainbows, without any record label. For another: If you want to buy a digital download of the album, you go to Radiohead's Web site and pay . . . whatever price you want to pay.

Getting physical copies of In Rainbows does cost something, but for a high price one gets a pretty luxe package."

This rocks! I've been waiting for 6 or 7 years for a band to make this move! I am going to order the new album on vinyl, not only to enjoy it but to support them for this bold initiative.

Here it comes! At long last, the death of the (mafia-controlled, monopolized) music industry!!!

Find Out If Your Computer Is Secretly Connecting to the Web

If you are trying to track down why your computer is running so slooowwwly, try using this simple DOS command from Digital Inspiration to uncover a possible problem:

* Type cmd in your Windows Run box.
* Type "netstat -b 5 > activity.txt" and press enter.
* After say 2 minutes, press Ctrl+C.
* Type "activity.txt" on the command line to open the log file in notepad (or your default text editor)

This .txt file will have a record of everything that has made an Internet connection in the last couple of minutes; you can then check your task manager to find out where it is and take care of it.

The processing key above will render the encryption on new-generation HD-DVD and Blu-Ray Disc's DRM useless.

The Advanced Access Content System Licensing Administrator (AACS LA) has been employing legal methods in an attempt to get web pages to remove this information, which is thought to crack the encryption scheme on every single HD-DVD and Blu-Ray Disc on the market.

As a result of an internet revolt, there are currently over 20,000 pages indexed by Google that now contain this information— and likely many more to come.

Super Fast Computer is one of those pages.

Hey AACS LA, sue me!

Adjusting System Restore in Vista

System Restore has saved me in a pinch a few times. I find that it allocates far too much of the drive, however.

While Windows XP has a slider-bar to adjust the amount of disk space used by System Restore, Vista does not. Until someone writes a GUI app for this, it can only be done by command-line:

vssadmin resize shadowstorage /on=[drive]: /for=[drive]: /maxsize=[size]

For example, to limit System Restore to 1 gigabytes on the C: drive, use:

vssadmin resize shadowstorage /on=C: /for=C: /maxsize=1GB

A quick Google search reveals that at least someone has written a batch file to simplify the process of adjusting System Restore's disk usage in Vista:

ChangeVistaRestoreSize.zip
